Why big trips get complicated

The excitement is clear.
The details can get scattered.

Booking emails, spreadsheets, notes and travel websites each hold part of the picture. The longer the trip, the harder it becomes to keep them in step.

Booking emailsFlights here. Hotels elsewhere.
Budget spreadsheetIs this still the right total?
Notes & AI chatsWhich decision did we make?
Dates & remindersWhat needs doing next?

One trip. One plan.

Know where you stand.
Know what comes next.

Build your route, estimate what it may cost, add your bookings and track your real budget. Your bookings, outstanding balances, tasks and travel information stay connected to the same trip, so the plan becomes more useful as the details develop.

The planner we wished we’d had.

We built The Extended Travel Planner while preparing for a year of travel ourselves. Our itinerary was spread across bookings, spreadsheets, emails and notes.

We wanted one place that could tell us where we were going, what we had booked, what it was costing and what we still needed to sort.

Cost Estimate

What might this destination actually cost?

Choose Value, Comfortable or More generous. Researched travel-style benchmarks help you plan likely destination spending before everything is booked.

Value: Good-quality budget accommodation and sensible everyday spending.
Comfortable: Well-reviewed mid-range accommodation and comfortable day-to-day travel.
More generous: Higher-quality accommodation, better restaurants and more generous everyday spending.

Your real trip budget

Know what you have actually committed.

Your overall Trip Budget is the starting point. Keep a protected reserve, see what is available to spend and track confirmed costs, including booking balances still to pay.

What have we paid? What do we still owe? How much remains?

The Planner Estimate is separate guidance for likely destination spending. It is not your Trip Budget or a live booking quote.

How much of our budget is already committed?

Thailand demonstration trip: £4,500 Trip Budget, £4,400 available after reserve, £1,800 confirmed costs and £2,600 remaining. Planner Estimate £1,445.

Travel Oracle, your AI trip assistant

Ask questions about the trip you are actually planning.

Travel Oracle understands your saved trip, using the route, bookings, budget, checklist and Trip Check information already in your planner.

It can answer questions, identify issues and suggest practical changes. When a supported planner change is proposed, review exactly what would change and decide whether to apply it.

“What have we still got to pay?”“Where are the gaps in our route?”“What could we change to reduce the cost?”

You stay in control. Supported changes are only applied after your approval.

When needed, Travel Oracle can research current web sources. Check important travel requirements with official sources; its help does not replace professional advice.

Trip Check

A second pair of eyes on your trip.

Long trips develop gaps surprisingly easily. Trip Check looks across your saved itinerary and highlights things that may need attention.

Some issues need attention. Others are simply worth reviewing. You can review a suggestion and keep the trip as planned. You decide what to change.

A few useful answers

Before you start planning.

How much information do I need to enter?

Start with the dates, destinations and budget you know. You do not need every booking before you begin. Add details as you make decisions; the planner becomes more useful as your trip develops.

What is the difference between ETP and TripIt?

TripIt is mainly designed to organise bookings you have already made into a single itinerary. The Extended Travel Planner starts earlier and helps you plan the whole trip, including your route, estimated costs, overall budget, bookings, outstanding tasks and what still needs arranging. If you mainly want to organise confirmation emails and travel reservations, TripIt may suit you. If you are planning a longer or more complex trip and want to manage the planning and budget as well as the bookings, ETP is designed for that.

Can I use it while travelling?

Use your planner from your computer, tablet or phone. You need an internet connection to update the plan or use Travel Oracle. Download a Travel Pack before you go offline, and create a fresh copy after making changes.

What happens if I need help?

Email hello@jamesandrob.com for help with the planner.

Does Travel Oracle make changes automatically?

No. Travel Oracle can suggest supported changes, but you review and approve them before they are applied. It does not book or cancel travel or make purchases.

What happens when my subscription ends?

Access to the online planner and Travel Oracle stops when your paid access ends. Ending access does not automatically delete your saved trip data. Downloaded Travel Packs remain available to read, but will not update. If you renew access using the same account, your retained trips become available again. Account deletion is separate.

Are the Cost Estimates live booking prices?

No. They are researched planning estimates based on your destination and travel style, not quotes or live booking prices. Check prices with providers before booking.

What is the difference between my Trip Budget and the Planner Estimate?

Your Trip Budget is the overall amount you decide to spend. The Planner Estimate helps you understand likely destination spending based on your route and travel style. As you add bookings and spending, the planner shows what you have committed, what you still owe and how much of your real budget remains.
